Adeline Yu, a former ASG student, recently began an internship with Voice of America (VOA), the official external broadcast institution of the United States federal government!
Adeline describes her typical day at VOA as one filled with numerous deadlines and projects. She works with fellow team members to select news stories for relevant international audiences, editing stories into 60 second news packages, and sharing them on social media. Adeline added that, “it’s an amazing experience that has really enriched my understanding of journalism and how it’s evolved with social media. I’m so happy I got this opportunity!”
Adeline is currently in her final year at Boston University studying international relations and journalism. She aims to pursue further studies in the field or a career in international news broadcasting. The senior chose Boston University over George Washington University because of BU’s journalism program.
Adeline graduated from Kennedy Catholic High School in 2013 and served as Head Prefect while she was at ASG. When asked what advise she has to share with current international students in high school, she tells students to not “let the pressure of college admissions and career goals become a burden.” She adds, “you sill have a long way to go! Planning ahead is important but don’t forget to enjoy the time you have now because it will be over before you know it!”
Great advise, Adeline, and congratulations on your internship! We are always rooting for you!
