Rafal Gerlik Transforms Community Service into Work Experience

February 16th, 2017 | Student Spotlight

On most Saturdays, Greenville High School sophomore Rafal Gerlik of Warsaw, Poland, can be found volunteering at the Stray Haven animal shelter in Greenville, Pennsylvania.  His duties at the shelter include walking and feeding the dogs as well as socializing with them to acclimate them to humans in anticipation of their future adoption by a loving family.  Rafal, who plans to major in animal psychology or veterinary medicine while at university, finds these activities to be an enjoyable and fulfilling way to relax after a long week at school.  Not only does he get to gain valuable career experience while spending time with these four-legged bundles of joy, Rafal also provides a valuable community service while doing so.  Participating in volunteer opportunities like Rafal does is a great way to strengthen your resume to gain admittance to university or employment.
