On January 4th, ASG houseparents, club advisors, and other staff members received CPR, First Aid, and fire safety training at the Greenville hospital provided by the South Pymatuning fire department. This training covered diagnosing and responding to a variety of common medical emergencies. CPR, an acronym for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a method of preserving brain function in a person who is experiencing cardiac arrest, until further measures can be taken to restore normal body function. First Aid refers to basic actions that can be taken by any individual with minimum training in an effort to preserve life and mitigate the effects of illness or injury until professional emergency responders arrive. While the majority of participants have previously received training in these areas, studies have shown that frequent practice and refresher courses are essential to maintaining competency with these skills. This training is just one example of ASG’s commitment to ensuring our student’s safety at all times.
