ASG Students Volunteer at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley

April 20th, 2017 | Student Spotlight

ASG students from the Youngstown, Ohio campus have been volunteering at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, serving meals to homeless and needy individuals.  For nearly 125 years, the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley has been providing a variety of services, including warm meals, new clothing, a temporary shelter, as well as educational and career services, to assist the less fortunate of the Youngstown, Ohio area.  Two weekends a month, sometimes more frequently, our students serve dinner to both those who live in the shelter and anyone in need from the public. On average, our kids serve upwards of 200 meals a night.  This volunteer work can be used to help fulfill their community service requirements and be added to their personal resumes and college applications.  Our students have a great time volunteering and they are now recognizable to both those they serve and the staff of the mission. We have been told by more than one staff member that ASG is their favorite volunteer group. After they are finished serving dinner, each new group of student volunteers are given a tour to see the facility and the programs offered to those in need.  This activity allows our Youngstown students to create stronger connections with their community while helping the less fortunate, and to act as responsible, global citizens.
